What is the best all around video play... i need one that can play most window formats as well as some other odds and ends.

Yep, MPlayer is by far the best.

I've had people tell me Xine is good, but I've always had trouble with it.

Mplayer is the best. If you install win32codecs, toy can play videos mpalyer can on some thing that integrates well with (for me, kde) like Kaffeine.

i love xine.. but try to install all the component to mplayer though, as it contains alot of good codecs

mplayer plays every single format i've tred it with, usually better than most windows programs do.

If you cant do it with Mplayer, you probably cant do it at all

it does everything........all formats,TV cards,dvd's,music, encoding and decoding into almost any format with both audio and video,plus on screen controls for picture quality etc,and its written entirely in C and assembly so its speedy fast, it does streaming video also, the man pages for it are huge.........I dont think anything for any other system payware or not can match it
