Default Linux making your cpu run cooler?!

Hello,

I'm on Fedora and just noticed something strange. It's no big deal at all but i'm just curious about it.

On Windows XP, I get idle temp of around 54C for my AMD 2500+.

On Linux, I get readings of around 45C.

Note that I do the readings directly into the BiOS. I stay idle for a long time, reboot and go check the reading in the BiOS. It really seems like Linux makes the cpu run cooler because right after rebooting and reading 45C, I stay in the bios and 10 minutes later, it is back at 54C.

Am I bothering too much about this or there really is an answer?!

Linux only uses resources as needed, but I think windows XP is set up in a similar fashion as far as that goes.I know windows98 always had a load on the cpu at all times. The one big difference may be that XP has more processes running even at idle while fedora might not, all depends on what services are running..........

Xp has system idle processes, which makes the CPU usage always add to 100%. I'm sure that if you look at the process via top in linux, what i say will make more sense.

Linux is better for that stuff. Windows is crowded with junk that is always running.
