Default Linux Installation.

I downloaded Ubuntu from this place here.

http://mirror.cs.umn.edu/ubuntu-releases/6.06/

Then I burned the ISO to a CD and I was told to restart with the disc is in. Nothing happens, and my boot sequence is fine. What can I do? I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my 2nd (also freshly formatted) second hard drive.

And about the second hard drive that Linux will be on, should it be set as slave? Or can I set it as master and choose which one to boot from? Thanks.

Shouldn't matter if it's slave or master, GRUB should detect it anyways.

Did you make sure to burn the ISO file as an image?

Yeah. I'm on Linux right now as we speak. Only thing I'm having trouble with now is installing the plugins for the mplayer to work. Frustrating, especially when you've spent so much time learning another OS front to back to go literally to knowing nothing, but hopefully I can figure it out.

That has been my single biggest frustration with linux is getting any sort of streaming web content.

I can view saved files just fine. However, when it comes to viewing web content I am still working on getting that up and running.

Although I'm learning by leaps and bounds it seems. Far better than my first few escapades into Linux which were short and painful.

For streaming videos and things I use the MediaPlayerConnectivity (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/446/) plugin for Firefox and Xine (http://xinehq.de/). It doesn't work for everything, but it works good enough for me.

Add this line to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org sid main

apt-get update
apt-get install mplayer-nogui mozilla-mplayer w32codecs

Done, watch 95% of streaming web video and audio.

Thanks for that. I'll try that next time I'm not behind the iron proxy of work.

P.S.:

When Flash 9 comes out for Linux, it will be 100%.

I dunno, I find it more attractive than the Windows Media Player plugin for I.E.

But it's personal preferance I guess. Nothing can beat the Quicktime for Mac plugin on prettyness though. Ever seen it? Amazing.
