Unhappy Linux Exerts ---plz help

I'm really new to linux,, I was tampering around on my friends system which had Red hat linux 9 and i changed the video memory from default 4MB to 32MB. and now whwn it boots it is really slow and i can't open the display Window to change it,, is there any way out in the command mode???????????
His System is Pentium III with 128 MB RAM, 4MB VIDEO memory)

My system has Fedora core 3and i can't configure the modem properly,, .it doesn't detect my modem,,(internal modem-- SmartLink hardware ver.SL1900 PCI software ver-3.40.06U2)
and get error messages(error 2........)and something like that
Plz HELP

Change the size of the video RAM accordingly, in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
