Question Linux in Acer Laptop?

I have read somewhere that you can install/put Linux (and Red hat i think particularly) in an Acer Laptop. I am interested of such an idea.

I have an acer aspire 1600 series .... the manual says that supports Windows Xp , this is only a word , can i install Linux ?

It seems to me strange.

and i searched for last topics for this theme but nothing

search for the model of laptop you have and see if someone else has a write up for it

then check to see EXACTLY what hardware the laptop has and go from there, lots of laptops do linux quite nicely, some dont
