Default Which Linux

Hi,
I am building a Linux box for hosting a webserver and some general work. The CPU is P-III 800 kHz. Which is the best linux distro to load on such a machine? Any links?

This would get better attention in the Linux forum. Hopefully, someone will move it for you.

Debian or Slackware would be good for a webserver, as they are very powerful, no frills distros of Linux.

*Thanks Trotter*

Will Mandrake or Mandriva be a good distro for this config?

It would be good to start with if you are new to Linux. If not, I don't suggest it.

if you want to run webserver, better learn to use command line, as a webserver needs alot of batch scripting (if not, your ganna have alot of headache doing repetitive work)..

i suggest forget running webserver for a moment, and learn the ins and outs of a linux distro, until your comfortable enough to run it without a desktop such as kde/gnome, or with only a very minimal window manager such as fluxbox..

then you can think about running webserver correctly i suggest debian/gentoo..

I reccomend Mandriva/ mandrake or possibly FreeBSD if your running a server, BSD is very lightweight . But my personal reccomendation would be Mandriva.

It needs very little configuration, but when you do need to configure it it is very easy to do
