hey guys i've been using windows all my life and i think it's time for me to try something a bit new. what's a good linux program to use for a beginer? i also still wanna be able to use xp for when i play games and what not.

You mean you want a distribution of Linux? There's a few. Mandrake is good for beginners.

To be able to use Windows as well, you need to dual boot. You need to partition your hard drive into 2 partitions for Windows and Linux. The Linux you are instaling should take care of the bootloader.
