Yep, people do that all the time. It's called dual booting. It's easiest to install Windows first and then partition and install Linux. Live CDs are really only good for testing out the distro or recovering data, etc.

Yeah, it's not too hard at all. Lots of (if not most) distros even have a built-in partitioning tool so you can do it all at once. Just pop in the disc, partition, and install.

If I were you I would go Ubuntu. I've never heard of Free Spire before, and Ubuntu is pretty good for beginners.

Freespire? Not a good move. Freespire is a Hybrid Distro a cross between Windows & Linux. I'm not a huge fan of hybrids like this. if your going to use a distro like this at all I reccomend using Xrandros OCE:

http://www.xandros.com/products/home...rculation.html

OR you might want to try Linux XP: http://iso.linuxquestions.org/version.php?version=374

But all in All I suggest using a propper Linux distro here are some reccomendations:

Kubuntu
http://www.kubuntu.org/

PCLinuxOS .92
http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/dist...glish/preview/
ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/distr...glish/preview/

This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish.

BeatrIX
http://www.watsky.net/download.html

Mephis
http://www.mepis.org/

if your still unsure of the distro try these Distro choosers:

http://eedok.voidofmind.com/linux/chooser.html
http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/

hope this helps,

Jake

Suit yourself, just don't expect us to know much about it should you run into any problems. I doubt many people here have actually used it before.

Is this the only distro you have tried? If so, try another.
