Default KDE or Gnome?

Okay, I have Ubuntu up and running on my old 1998 IBM computer. I will probably be using this computer for 1-2 months, or until I build my new computer. I was getting familiar with this OS and I installed Konsol. This terminal seems a lot better than the Gnome terminal. I have a few questions too.
1) How are all of the Konsols different? (Shell terminal, Linux terminal, and the Root terminal)
2) I like Konsol because it is more "developer-like", if you know what I mean. It's more advanced. Should I switch over to KDE since I like this? (I think that the KDE Desktop is ugly though, I like the Gnome Desktop.)
3) Is there some kind of equivalent terminal is by Gnome that is just as "advanced" as this with the same three different terminals and features?

KDE>Gnome, to me anyways.

Three reasons:
1) I can just do more with KDE - to me, it's more flexible.
2) GNOME reminds me of RH/FC.
3) GNOME runs slower than KDE on my Mac.

I read somewhere that all of the programs on KDE can be used on Gnome and vise versa. I have looked at some KDE pictures and it looks like the task bar is made for retards because it is so big. I just think that Gnome is more sleek looking. What makes KDE more flexable?

You can shrink the task bar - if you want, it can become much smaller.

I just said KDE was more flexible to me. My command of KDE's Control Center is becoming quite good.

Is one of them more for advanced users than the other is? Just wondering because Konsol is obviously more advanced than the Gnome terminal.

Also, do people usually not make a "personal" login name, like for instance mine is greg, or do people just use root to login? When I say people, I mean advanced users, people that know what they are doing.

advanced users rarely use root as when logged in as root you actually open your system up to more security risks.

Gnome or KDE.. both a preference.. All apps shuld work in either

Yeah, I'm going to try out the Kubuntu live CD and see if I like it.

Can somebody answer the question: How are the three terminals in Konsol different?

I like GNOME, it runs well on my AthlonXP, and runs "decently" on my Celeron 500 (but I usually run Win98 on this anyways). I dual boot Ubuntu on 2 of my machines, and for now, I'm sticking with GNOME. I like GNOME's interface, and the huge start bar of KDE is something I don't like (never USED KDE before, but I've ordered some Kubuntu CD's). I prefer the customization you get with GNOME and the top and bottom toolbars give you more buttons without a huge looking taskbar. So, for me, GNOME is the clear winner, but it's different for everyone.
