Default java and Linux

hi all,

id like to installe linx mandrake 9.1 on my comp. but before installing it on my comp i have a question. i'm actually wondering whether linux includes a java compiler or it should be downloaded. i need ur advice. i'll appreciate all info that could help.

from what ive seen it doesnt, but it can run java files on a clean install, you can probably find a java compiler for it, but i wouldnt go with mandrake its a watered down linux with a windows feel to it, not really "linux" but its good for someone whos just learning to break away from windows.

I have been running redhat, I recently switched to SuSe Pro w/server Im very happy, you can get allot of Java APPs. etc

thankx for replying but ur answers dont help me out. i'm still wondering if i can program java on linux (mandrake). i dont want to go whit redhat or something just mandrake. if theres some compilers can i DLd 'm and using them on my mandrake 9.1 ? that's the question. i think i should try and see.
