Default ipod ... vmware

first off ... i am running debian 3.1 "sarge", 2.6 kernel, and i am running vmware workstation 5

okay. so i have given up on gtkpod and rhythmbox. i have a 4gb ipod mini. i installed itunes on my windows xp vmware machine ... i set it to automatically connect all my usb devices ... so i can "use" my ipod ... well i get this error message when i plug it in:

"The specified device appears to be claimed by another driver (usb-storage) on the host operating system which means that the device may be in use. VMware Workstation cannot safely take control of the device until the host driver is unloaded."

i am stilling trying to figure things out when it comes to linux ... and i am stumped i dont know how to fix this. any help would be great. if you have any suggestions on using my ipod without vmware would be helpful too.

thanks

Hey, you're from Bakersfield.. i live in Ridgecrest, not too far from there.

why do you need vmware to "use" your ipod? you should be able to access all your files and what not straight through linux

yeah, it gets mounted as /media/TED'S IPOD

but if i do anything to the files and folders in it, it doesnt work, and i have to use my moms windows machine to "restore" it and then it works, i would love to be able to just copy the files over into there, but i dont know where to copy them or anything.

i go to ridgecrest often ... my dad does some work out there ... heh.

kay any further help will be great.

thanks
