Default installing a program (command line probs)

i downloaded KPPP, a modem dialer thingo
now heres the prblem to try to install it.
i unpack it to /home/wayne/Documents/kppp
now i go into the script thingo where you write stuff
and type

cd /home/wayne/Documents/kppp
./configure

like it says in the readme but after all text cones up writing a error message comes up and i did exactly what the instructions said. is there a graphical program i can use or a tutorial for stupid people for me to learn how to do this because i need to know how to install these programs.

could you copy and paste that error message here?? I think its a dependency issue, but please paste the error message here so that we can help. There are millions of error messages.

Kppp has kde dependencies, do you have kde installed?If so, kppp should already be there and just needs configured.

thats the error message

also i use gnome

in the meantime i installed it using a RPM but at the moment im downloading another binary for me to experiment on.

yeah, your missing the KDE library, thats QT, the library for KDE.

http://www.trolltech.com/download/qt/x11.html <- this is what you need I think.

another question, if i install a program like a media player or browser, how do i run it.

open the console and type in the name of it, that should work.

no i doesnt seem to work, and i wanted to use a shortcut like on the desktop. i installed firefox but it doesnt show up in the menu and the only way i can run it is by trawling through folders until i find it.
