I need some help I am running Knoppix on a CD-R. I downloaded Nmap as a tar.bz2 someone please tell me what the command line configure is. I have been at this for a while. it says ./configure make make install. How do I go about finding this. I type in the directory and cant figure it out.

First you have to extract the tarball. then move into the directory and read the README or INSTALL file. Then do what the instructions say. Most likely in the directory the will be a configure program. To run it you just put ./ in front of it.
