If you insist on Linux, do say a Debian or RH install over network. What HDD size you got u never mentioned?

Personally I use FreeBSD floppies for one of my old laptops with no CDrom (now a server), boot off floppy, install over network, takes about 30-60mins depending on speed, and bam you got yourself a abse system, thats on a pentium 1, 120mhz with 40mb ram and an 800mb hdd

You can probably get away with running Deb and RH on a P100 still, but its a dog. Most likely better options for that hardware include FreeBSD, Slackware, Gentoo (after all that compilation, or if you rebuild the packages for the P100 (watch your CFLAGS! haha - theres only about 80 pages about optimising those on the gentoo site) and packaging them together for the laptop. Debian may not run wuite THAT slowly, but its often not one of the zippiest distros, and its packages are usually out-of-date, although the apt system is incredibly easy to update your system with.

I found out how to install DSL using floppies, so I'm going to try that.

BTW, this is a 1.2GB harddrive.

OK, I'm having some problems trying to get it to install.

I'm following these directions:
http://damnsmalllinux.org/install_from_floppy.html

I followed all the steps, but when I boot off the floppy it tells me
Code:
Accessing DSL Image at /dev/hda1.../modules/cloop.o: init_module
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
Any ideas?
