| hello all My idea, and question, is if i can boot into linux, or vista, and give it like half of my ram (i have 3gb) and then load the other OS on the remainder of the ram. I hate daul booting, becuase i cant just go back to what i was doing right away. So is this possible?

| ok, maybe i have to rephrase my question. I have vmware in linux, but i want to actually switch OS's and use them to their full extent, like games and such, without losing performance. Like instead of just loading one OS, load both on different sticks of RAM, or something like that

| Member (again) | Don't think it's possible. You could always get another computer, and use a KVM switch to go back and forth, but that's a bit much. A better solution would be to (if at all possible) learn to use just one operating system for everything you do. |

| well, then there needs to be a program that can do that, either now or in a few years, becuase i cant stand rebooting, and i stlil want to play games. Does anyone know and developer in the linux department that can make something like this? i'm sure it will help alot of people, maybe switching between windows and linux or comparing OS's.

| Junior Techie | Can't be done.. Here's what i did - I wanted to use my nice LCD monitor for Win and my new linux box... without traveling to 2 desks or remoting in. I found out that my monitor has mulitple inputs! yay - i have 2 boxes, 2 keyboards and mice, and 1 monitor. I can just tap a switch and change the inputs for whichever PC i'm running. Not the best solution, but i can deal with 2 KB/Mouse. I did this because DVI KVM's are halla expensive. You can purchase cheap VGA/PS2 KVMS from ebay - i got an 8 port switch (with standard power cable, none of that AC/DC poop). |
