You can play BF2 and other DirectX games in Linux, but its a pain in the arse. I have never heard of SuperGamer, perhaps he is talking about
Cedega. Just use Windows for games. There ARE, though, native Linux versions of Doom 3, Quake 4, UT2k4, WolfET, RTCW, etc, and they work perfectly.
Drivers, well, most hardware is supported by default, you won't need to install drivers, as the kernel has them built in. Since you have an ATi card, well, good luck. ATi Linux drivers are a pain in the arse, you most likely won't be able to get them to work. However, the nVidia drivers are freaking fantastic and work perfectly.
Peripherals, well, most printers work, some scanners work, you can search Google for "[device] linux" and find answers. To get Linux, find the distro you like, I prefer Debian, and go to their website and download it. Most distros offer a torrent to make things easier and faster.
