I am starting out my journey into tech and I am a big newb to all of this. I always keep hearing that linux is over all a better OS than Mac OS and Windows. Is their anyone that can or is willing to give me a detail explaination on this?

Also even though I am just starting to learn html should I just switch to beginners version of linux so i can start to get the hang of it or should I wait until I get more advanced in the computer languages I know?

Better, in the sense that it's more stable, fun to play with, and very rewarding to those who learn to use it. You need to have a relatively good knowledge of how your computer works before you just jump head first into it however.

About the beginner's distros...I know very, very little about programming, and I am still able to use some of the more advanced distros of Linux with little or no trouble. It's all in how much you know and sometimes how patient you are. However, I do recommend you start with a good "noob" distro, like Mandriva, to get a feel for how Linux works before you go with a more complicated distro (like Slackware, Debian, or Gentoo.)

On the second matter I agree with Macdude, start off with a nice noob Distro like PCLinuxOS and move onto more advanced distros later like Slackware or debian

From wikipedia the most worthless place on the net? One moment I'll go re-write that article to be biased in the exact opposet way it currently is... Not that I don't agree but Wiki is a terrible source almost every time.


Stick with what people call "noob" linux distros such as Fedora or SUSE they both have many html and programming language development tools for you and are fairly easy to use.

I've found that mandriva and SuSE are better for noobs. Knoppix is still better if you aren't even sure you want to run with linux. No install = less pains (sometimes)

Although I am in complete agreement with what has been said above (to start with an easier distro that isnt solely based around UNIX commands and has a halfway decent GUI) why rob yourself of what linux is all about by using a windows like flavor? Start easy with something like Ubuntu that can be operated with a few loose terms but allows you to learn as you go and eventually use the terms you learn.
