Default how to go root

ok i am trying to create a new folder in my /usr/local/share folder, i need to create a folder named screenlets, and its saying i dont have the permission to do that, where do i go or wat do i do to become root to do so, and yes i am the owner of this computer

make sure you have write permisions for the current directory. If you have root access (which you should), chmod 755 the directory or 777 if you want everyone (if your on a network) to be able to write to it.

umm i dont know much about wat u just said lol, and i dont think i have write permission to that directory and how do i go root to let me do so

Are you trying to do this by way of a command prompt or some type of "windows" environment?

What distro are you using, Ubuntu? With Ubuntu use the "sudo" command to run things as root.

sudo mkdir /usr/local/share/screenlets
Or if you really want a GUI:

sudo nautilus
