| from a terminal or console screen type su, then your root pasword when prompted, it wont show as you type, but it will be entered(no **** like in windows)
or you can log in as root and then start an x session if you want |

| a root password should have been set at install
what EXACTLY is it doing?
if no passowrd is set, just typing su as a regular user will make you root |

| oh ya, since youve got Suse, it wont have gcc, try to install that rpm first for mplayer, try rpm -i <filename>
in order to compile the source code your gonna need some more things first |

| dont worry, your the second one in about a week to do this
thats one of the head games your going to have to deal with, linux uses unix commands and using the commandline or terminal is new to many people, but its quick and it works very quickly when you know what your doing |
