Default Hl2 on Linux?

I am so increadably annoyed with windows and would really love to switch but I'm afraid I might not be able to play all my favorite games, mainly just hl2 and it's mods. I was wondering what is the best Linux OS is best for playing games or what emulater would I need. I've never used linux that much and any help would be apreciated.

Good luck, it's very difficult to get to work.

Your best bet is to dual boot and have Windows just for games.

Well, it kinda just depends. I've emulated 2 windows games and one installed great and runs without a hitch, but the other took (literally) 23 hours to install and doesnt even start.

But yes, it would probably be best just to dual-boot Linux and XP for gaming purposes.

^ Unless of course you want to play some of the many games that are released for Linux, like Doom 3, Quake 4, UT2004, the such.

Tell me about it, I can't get wine to work on suse so I just gave up. I would definitely dual boot with Windows and Linux, that's what I have going on, just concentrate your games on Windows and doing everything else in Linux, it's just to **** hard to get certain things working.

Well my setup is a little different, more like quintuple boot, I got XP,2003,Vista,openSUSE 10.1 and Fedora Core 5 on this one system. I'm going to give Ubuntu a try and make that six,it should work.

You can run Half-Life 2 in direct X 7 mode under linux if you have an nvidia 6600GT or better when running the latest version of cedega. Ati cards wont work well enough to even waste time trying becuase there linux drivers are crap.
