Reset the display drivers, gave it the card's bus identifier, reset the mouse and keyboard settings, etc.

How did you mess the install up?

Just the problem...everything went fine, until i tried to startx...I just thought that with a new install, maybe I'd get lucky.

And I didn't.

I figured it out. Thendar was having the same problem with the same card (ATI Rage 128 Pro), so hopefully this will help him.

When installing X, I had to set the vendor to fbchips (think that's the name...i know it's the only one that starts with "fb") during Debian Configuration for xserver-xfree86, then used all the default settings. Then, as root, I ran xf86config and selected the driver for a Rage 128 compatible card.

Works great now. Thanks everybody.
