If in the "Device" section of your xorg.conf it says

Driver		"nvidia"

rather than

Driver		"nv"

or anything else, then it means it worked. It also should display an Nvidia splash when X starts if they are installed properly.

I use Opera, and I never knew you could do that. I'm going to check if my nVidia stuff is installed, I'm not sure if it is.
