Default gnome questions

ok, well i know that ucan pick the gnome gui with redhat 9.
but it still looks like the redhat default gui, with the redhat button for the start menu and everything. i thought it was like in everyones screenshots with the nice smooth taskbars, and the cool bars on the top, and the start button is the gnome foot thing.

how do i make my linux like that?

You need to do a search on google.com/linux for an app called SuperKaramba. It uses themes (actually just small scripts) to give you those cool toolbars and customization. I used it when I was running Mandrake 9.2. It's really good stuff and easy to use.

I don't think Karamba will give chesman what he's looking for. Red Hat have made extensive modifications to the look of both Gnome and KDE in their distro, the desktop is based on Gnome but apps from either Gnome or KDE will look more or less the same. If you want a 'normal' looking Gnome you can either install Ximian Desktop (they don't fool around with the look and feel as much), or restore Red Hat's version to a more stock look. A google search should turn up instructions on returning to the stock look, it's mostly icons and other graphics, plus the GTK and Metacity themes. Hope this helps.

Superkaramba only works with KDE. Gnome has it's own proggy, just can't remember the name of it. Checkout www.justlinux.com (or .org). They have a whole sub forum for this stuff.

gDesklets is the Gnome equivelent of [Super]Karamba, but it won't do anything to change the look of the Gnome panels and menus. It does add some spiffy looking monitors and tools to the desktop though.
