I wouldn't. Ubuntu is a piece, and in my opinion, it really isn't Linux.

(Plus, you don't get a lot of stuff you normally would with Debian, and the installer isn't as good in my humble opinion.)

I see...

Well, it doesn't look like I'll be getting Debian to work

Give us a partial list of errors, or if you can, plug in your USB drive, or a floppy, or something, and get your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file for us and we can look at it for you.

If you need help mounting the floppy or a pendrive, let us know.

Hahah, no blank floppies or USB drive, so I'll write all of it down.

But, I'm getting a bunch of different errors, so tell me which ones should I copy.. Like, errors after what command.

I thank you for spending your time on trying to get a newb using Linux XD

You are very welcome. Plus, I live for stuff like this

If you see any lines that start with ERROR or (EE), copy those.

Also, don't worry about copying xorg.conf for now. Once I see what errors you're getting, I should be able to tell you just which parts you'll need to give us.

The General

Default

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Then try to startx or /etc/init.d/kdm restart ... I see no reason it shouldn't work. Maybe try apt-get install x-window-system-core ... but yeah, waiting 2 months for Ubuntu won't solve your problem.

I did the "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" and I got...

"Package `xserver-xorg` is not installed and no info is availible.
use dpkg --info(= dpkg-deb --info) to examine archive files,
and dpkg --info (= dpkg-deb --contents) to list their contents.
/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg is not installed"

When I do the startx, I see 3 (EE)s

(EE) xf860penSerial: cannot open device /dev/input/mice
No such device.
(EE)Configured Mouse: cannot open input device
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Configured Mouse"
No core pointer

Fatal server error:
Failed to initialize core devices...

Whew....

Also, when I do apt-get install x-window-system-core I get...

"x-window-system-core is already uthe newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 4 not upgraded."

OK, then, do the following:
In your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, look for a section that looks something like the following:
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
...or, the identifier may be named "Generic Mouse" or something that involves mice.

Copy that part for us. Also, look for a section that starts Section "ServerLayout" and copy that for us too, if you would please.
