| Monster Techie | Okay, I'm in another predicament... I need to boot from CD, but for my laptop I can't get to my bios I don't think... I mean I know i've done it before, but when it boots up I just see some compaq sign and then it goes straight to windows loading before I ever see "press this button for bios"

| Junior Techie | Erm...I don't know about compaq, but in a fair amount of bios's it's the delete key, also try the function keys.

| You can't install it from inside Windows, the only way is to boot from the disc. Try the Control key also to get into the BIOS EDIT: Read this: Quote:

| Looks like your set here man but... I'll add my 2c anyway cause I am difficult. When Choosing a distro this should always be your first stop: http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/ (ignore if it says Ubuntu matches that for everything, and as stated earlier it is EVIL!) but there should be other matches there as well try one of those Beware Knoppix it works well as a Live CD but as an installed system it is difficult to install and use. the *noppix site actually recomends a debian Install. ![]() A few personal recomendations: Kubuntu http://www.kubuntu.org/ Uses KDE desktop, one CD install works both as a live and Install CD. Be wary it is a bit bloated. Mandriva http://frontal2.mandriva.com/en/downloads/mirrors This is what PCLinuxOS is based on it is a BIG distrobution with all you will ever need PCLinuxOS http://www.pclinuxos.com/page.php?7 This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish. BeatrIX http://www.watsky.net/download.html This Distro is small fast and effective, the ultimite Workers CD Mephis http://www.mepis.org/ Everything you will ever need on 1 CD. Hardware detection is exelent, as is the feel and look of the distro hope this adds food for thought, Jake |
