TKIII is on a distinguished road

Question Gentoo not detecting ADMtek Comet

I recently installed gentoo from the 2007.0 minimal cd onto a hardrive that was to go into an old Pentium III Compaq Deskpro in which the cdrom drive doesn't work. I installed it using my desktop machine which has way different hardware (AMD 64 X2 5200+, Nvidia motherboard, etc.), so i used the genkernel method figuring it would detect the other hardware and I could recompile a more specific kernel.

I put the harddrive back into the deskpro and Gentoo starts fine and detects every piece of hardware but my network card. If i "dmesg | grep eth0" it comes back as an ADMtek Comet R.17 ethernet card. I put an old Linksys card that I have never had problems with in any OS (including Gentoo), and it doesn't even show up in "dmesg | less".

Any suggestion would be appreciated.
