Default Ftp server

Ok i'm looking to create the most secure server in my city.

Sure it's going to be a challenge, but I now where to start.

I've gathered together a couple ideas, but now I need an idea for the best securest easiest ftp server for freebsd.

Here's what I'm using so far.

FreeBSD

Hiawatha

Hiawatha is obviously the best webserver. It beats the crap out of every area of apache.

So that's what I'm looking for in the ftp area.

I don't want someone to say proftpd etc..

I know that the most secure things are the most obscure.

I only found Hiawatha by fluke, but it's 100 times better than apache.

So if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

What brings you to this conclusion? Finding it by fluke...sounds to me like you read something about it and automatically assume and think you know better.

By the by, the most "secure" FTP will certainly not be the "easiest". Anyhow, for creating the most secure FTP server in the city - are you going to challenge hacker's to crack yours among other's servers?

And above all...the bottom line...you just want recommendations for Unix FTP servers?

I didn't just read about it and come to a conclusion, I tried it for quite a while on linux, so I know how it works.

Yea I doubt i'm going to use this server for anything but fun

so I'm going to challenge some server admins I know to try and root it.

If it does go commercial, then I'd like my clients to know that it is an extremely out of the ordinary secure server.

So if you've got any suggestions for ftp server's then go ahead

I think for my mail server it'll be postfix or qmail.

Thanks for the replies

http://vsftpd.beasts.org/ - VSFTPD is supposed to be secure... I would chnage the default port 21

Make sure to change your ssh port and make it also identify by hostnames...

I dont know about you but I use PSCP and SFTP on port 22, both of these services are provided by sshd

How to make your computer "secure":

turn off any unnecessary services.
shut down any uneeded open ports.
secure all admin/root accounts.
unplug all cables from it. (network, usb, keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.)
place it in a concrete box, seal with additional concrete.
bury that box 6 feet undergound and leave no marking as to where it it burried.

and MAYBE you've got yourself a secure server.

Heard that joke a few years ago. Thought it was oddly appropriate for some reason.
