Default first time ubuntu user

i was just trying to play some mp3 song on my computer but ubuntu wouldnt play it. i just installed the os so i have yet to install drivers for my soundcard. is that the problem?

i am using what ubuntu came with. i also cant get online because my mobo is old and does not have onboard lan. i tried to add a pci wireless adapter but it does not support linux. any other solutions?
this computer is a project because i have not installed ubuntu on any computer beofre i thought i would try it. the comp is not the greatest. it has pentium 3 750mhz, 256 ram, 3.2gb hdd (i'm suprised it works, i found it in someone's trash.

How does that describe at all what you are trying to use? Ubuntu comes with ssh, are you using ssh to play your mp3s??

give the guy a break he's new.

Get on a puter you can internet on and search for "ndisgtk ubuntu" you'll get an installer file.. put that on floppy and run it on the ubuntu computer... then you'll get an extra option in your system menu for windows wireless drivers.. so you can make your wireless work with your windows drivers.. then you will want the codec pack as suggested above as ubuntu does not support mp3's without it.
