During the installation did you choose to install GRUB?

No, it absolutely does not force GRUB on you. Not installing a boot loader at all is even a option in case you want to use your own.

We really need more information to help you. At this point we can only guess that a boot loader was not installed during the installation. You haven't said what version of Windows you are using but if you are using W2K or XP then you can put lines in the Windows boot loader for Linux. You could even boot off a Linux CD and install GRUB or LILO. But if you are a beginner then the easiest thing for you to do, without risking your Windows partition, is to reinstall Fedora and try it again.

When you reinstall it you should get an option to install a bootloader, and make sure you put it in the master boot record (MBR) if it gives you the option.

Fedora quits? Might be a bad download. Do that checksum thing, MD5 or whatever it's called.
