I am very new to Linux... i've been administering Windows Servers & Desktops for many years.
My situation is this: I need to setup a mail server. Here's what we have so far - web hosting through network solutions, already have 65 email addresses through their service.
Currently we are using Microsoft Mail (Yeah, i know... what the heck are we thinking!) for internal email, and a webhosting service for our external email.
All PC's have access to internal email, while sales, IT and Administration have external addresses.
I need to get rid of the Microsoft Mail Postoffice as there are annoying incompatibility issues with Outlook 2003. We're not a large enough company to need an Exchange server.
I have heard many great things about Linux and how easy it is to setup a mail server COUGH COUGH!
I'm new at this... if only you could see my face after i installed Fedora 5... a deer caught in headlights!!! LOL :wooha:
I don't have a clue as to how to install software. The instructions for sendmail install are useless to me as i really don't know what the heck it says!
Is there anyone that may have a step by step install procedure or '
to the point' instructions for linux newbies?
ONce i see how its done.. i'll get it... i'm a quick learner!
Also, if there are any other suggestions for an email server other than sendmail, please let me know. Always interested.
From my readings... many people have said that Fedora 5 is 'bloated' and to try other distros... so i'm gonna try Ubuntu too to see if makes things a bit easier.... STOP me if i'm wrong
Thanks in advance.
