If your computer is shutting down out of no where, you might have a hardware issue. Linux will not fix that.

anyway... here's another link for you http://distrowatch.com/

btw, i would suggest Ubuntu --> http://www.ubuntulinux.org/

if your just getting in the game

Beware- Configuring dial-up in Ubuntu is a pain, but if you are connected by ethernet or LAN its a breeze.

1) What machines are supported?

Mandriva Linux 8.2 PPC has been tested on the iMac, iBook & PowerBook and should work on any "NewWorld" Apple machines, including B/W G3s and G4s. Support has been added for a number of "OldWorld" machines such as the 7600.

2) What are the system requirements?

At least 96MB of RAM is recommended with 2GB of *free* (unallocated) disk space.

Here is a list of compatible hardware, also:

How about Redhat Linux? A friend of mine uses Redhat and says it's pretty good.

RH or Fedora?

Both are bloated, have some odd features (the default window system for FC 2&3 uses Windows 95 style window-handling; each folder you open opens in a new window!), and overall feel just plain weird.

I don't suggest it.

That's Right Ubuntu Rocks, easy to Use, no clutter, No "bloating"

BTW Slackware is an exelent step up if you want to learn Linux the "old school" way but with None of the mess

Hope this Helps,

Jake
