| Debain is a little advanced... For new users I'd suggest Mandrake or Fedora Knoppix is nice if you want to preview linux without going to the trouble of installing it permanently.

| Ultra Techie | Debian is not very advanced. It is very easy to use (but I did use suse for a year or two), it is very stable, and it has a awesome packageing system. Things hasve changed and Debian is a lot easier now than before. They have improved the installation system and it always has up to date softare (tons of it too). |

| Junior Techie | If you like Knoppix and want to install a Linux, I'd suggest Slackware. It is a little advanced, but the two install disks (you don't need 3 and 4) have pretty much everything you'll ever need. It comes with X11 Window System + many front ends (KDE, Gnome, FluxBox, and WindowMaker to name a few), Gaim, xMMs, and many other programs. I'd consider this one for a permanant installation. Also, I download DSL (Demi Sized Linux), which was 50MB, and tried it out, and I'd have to say Slackware is much better. |
