Which distro of Linux/Unix should i go for

some one has suggested freeBSD because of its security features.

its all about preference... please look around here, to learn and dl different distros. another great place to turn to for linux help is http://www.linuxquestions.org/

If your just getting into it, mandrake might be your best bet.
