Default Dimension 4600i Slackware 9.1

I have been facing a strange problem while installing Slackware 9.1 on a Dell dimension 4600i desktop. A few seconds after launch, the installation gets halted; the last message I get is:

hda: ide device driver attached.

Some people suggested that bare.i kernel does not support SATA architecture present in my desktop system and that I should compile 2.6.6 kernel for this system elsewhere and then try installing from it. As much as I have tried to do that, my machine does not have a floppy drive and therefore I am not able to boot from the 2.6.6 kernel that I custom compiled.

I am hoping to get some feedback in here.

Thanks for looking guys!!
