can linux (ubuntu) do this

i just recieved my free ubuntu CD and the bootable cd its awesome, i now wana install the full version just wondering if it can: network with windows and stream file .mp3 .avi etc etc. also is it easy 2 do a dual boot both OS on same h.d?

it isnt going to be all point and click though, you will have to set some of it up the old fashioned way by editing some config files manually, doable by a newbie, but you will have to do a fair amount of reading and if you dont have any commandline skills, you will have to learn them

ok so if i boot from the install CD it will give me an option 2 hav dual OS's?

never used ubuntu, but i'd assume it comes with either LILO or GRUB to act as a boot loader to pick an OS to boot up

before you get too much further, do some reading first about what your doing, it will more than likely save you some headaches, wish I could explain more but I am unfamiliar with the install options of ubuntu, linux is linux when it comes right down to it, but there's more than a hundred flavors at this point and they have their little quirks

I dont want to scare you away, but just be aware that linux although in some cases its just as easy to setup as windows, more often than not it isnt, it seems to be all the rage these days for windows users to try to switch, and then get frustrated when stuff doesnt work the way they expected because quit honestly, linux isnt windows, there's no better way to put that really, they are totally different animals.Also the best way to learn linux is by reading and learning on your own and doing a little at a time, there's a bunch of things to unlearn and relearn from all the bad habits windows teaches.

GRUB stands for GRand Unified Bootloader

Ive Installed Ubuntu and Windows on the same hard drive without much trouble but as recommended by horndude do some research, my first attempt landed me with some problems...

Ubuntu comes with both GRUB and LILO

GRUB is the default
