Angry Boot Problem

ok, this has been driving me nuts for days on end now, i have already installed red hat twice, and both getting same result.

i have the grub bootloader installed, and winXP and RH9.

red hat installed fine, no problems, but i could never get the graphical install to work for me, my monitor would go black, and stay that way. so i went through and did it with the text version

it went through perfect, without a hitch, and second time around (because i am dum) i finally picked generic svga 1024x768, etc monitor cause it did not pick up my monitor during probe, just said 'unknown monitor'. so fine enough, it said it did it all fine and dandy and for me to restart and to go mad.

so i restarted, and picked red hat from the groovy new os selection screen ala grub, and well it goes thrugh the check list , oked everything, and when it hits 'loading firstboot' it goes to that all to familiar black screen and stays there.

now i have searched, and searched, and posted on numerous dfforums, and have gotten no help, so i am leaveing this up to the best forum i know out there, so lets see if we can figure this out guys, please?

thanks
Ches, have a great day

chesman... i don't recall what rh does during firstboot, but i would try manually configuring things. See if you can drop out of the attempting 'graphical boot' by hiting CTRL+ALT+F1 and logging in. From here, you can edit your X config files as well as run any config utils like xf86cfg, xf86config etc and playing with monitor/monitor freqs/vid card settings.
