Hauppage WinTV PVR-250 is a better option if you can find one, since it's got older and more stable drivers. And there are PVR-150MCE which don't work as well under Linux and might have driver/compatibility issues.

Here is a list of tuner cards supported under Linux.

You're going to have a very difficult time getting MythTV to run under a VMWare instance of Linux. Even if you can get the actual hardware functioning, you're going to be missing 3D support, and there is no such thing as a "virtual tuner card."

I have failed to install Mandriva. I am going to give it another go with 32bit now I know the cheat for doing so.

Takes a while to get out of setup though.

Care to speculate? I thought it looked quite good (and sounded) qutie good. Has all the programs that I wanted in there (Apache, FTP, that cube thing, a choice between gnome and KDE off the disk, and most importantly a nice .rpm for the media center.

Any new distro's being downloaded will have to wait until the weekend (when I hoped to do a complete format and have just XP on this machine, The Linux distro on the other.) Mandriva DVD, OpenSUSE and Ubuntu I have at hand. I can download a single CD between 10 and when I go to bed.

Well, 32 Mandriva doesn't work either.

Ubuntu doesn't want to boot from CD. I finishes the loading and just gives me a beige wallpaper.

Which other OS' has all the programs and features of Mandriva?

Any distro but Mandriva, pretty much. The package manager that Mandriva uses is terrible.

Get a Debian-based distro, like Ubuntu or Debian. They use apt, which is the best package manager in the world.

Any software that comes with Mandriva but doesn't come with Debian, can be installed easily...

And about that beige screen - what kind of video card are you using?

Here, try this one, it will take a bit more configuration, but I'll help you with that. It's better just to dive right in to Debian, than to mess with n00b distros like Mandriva and Ubuntu.

One more thing ... these discs should have worked, are you sure you are burning them correctly?

Burned as ISO image in nero, the first one failed, but the one I used to install was burnt at 8x and works. :/ The only thing wrong with my CD drive is the belt is worn down from hitting the Kandalf's huge doors.

Why is that Debian so small? 127.9MB? I assume it is compatible with Apache, NAS service and a FTP software?

It's a network install; It will download the packages you select off the internet and install them. It's just easier that way, you don't have to download it and burn a huge disc.

Plus it gets the latest releases in the repository.
