| Best media centre linux distro? It has to be user friendly. I plan for this to be used by my mum too! MythTV user interface is what I want to see.
Other requirements are, it has to be able to run a HTTP, HTTPS and a FTP server and support remote desktop. Good hardware support, and a web browser are good points.
(I'm trying to think of uses for a PC, so far all I got other than a HTPC is a server, so I can log onto my PC from other computers, like they do at schools and businesses via Server 2003.)
While I am posting, what is the best FTP software? on a Gbps LAN ServU only uses 125Mb/s.

| Is MythTV a fully functioning OS, or is it a program?
If it is the latter than is there a way that you can make that run on start up in Ubuntu (most familiar) or other Linux distro. - I ask as it is soo small for a OS.

| MythTV is only an app, however, there is a Fedora Core-based distro that is centered around it. I do believe there's a link to it on the MythTV website |

| Mythdora, or Knoppmyth. I, of course, recommend Knoppmyth, as it's Debian-based.
The again, any Linux distro will work fine, just install MythTV and the necessary dependencies.
Or you could try Freevo, but I hear it's not as good as MythTV. |

| MythTV is impossible to install, spent the last hour trying. There are soo many guides out there, all of which are completely different...
I can no longer access the internet on the virtual machine, so attempt 2 of the trial will commence tomorrow.
Is Knoppmyth just knoppix with mythTV installed? As I was trying that today and was liking the amount of pre installed programs. I can't see where network tools are though? I need to set a static IP for internet to work.

| You're trying to use MythTV in VMware/etc?
Knoppmyth is Knoppix with MythTV, I don't know if I will configure all your stuff like MythDora does, so you actually might want to try MythDora... |

| Which TV card do people recommended for Linux? Google hasn't helped here.
I was watching a video on google about Knoppmyth but it appears there isn't the standard KDE/Gnome user interface at all? Just the bubbles.
