Default its called a "flavor" lol

i have to slightly agree w/ ober and debian... However I do alot of networking and hacking so i like Knoppix.

It really depends what you use it for. Redhat has the most support, gentoo just generally rocks, and knoppix has all the network and hacking tools.

Hope someone out there found this useful lol

The new corporate Red Hat has support, Fedora has little.

I always steer noobs to Mandrake. It's simple to set up and you can learn it at your own pace. Then when you get the basics down you can jump into a Debian. Just my .02.

I'm a SuSE man myself. Haven't had a chance to check out any other flavours (with a "u".......cuz I'm in Canada!) yet other than RedHat, but you guys have gotten me more interested in Debian and Mandrake now.
