Default Best Linux Distro for AMD 64 processor

I just bought a laptop with the Mobile AMD 64 processor. I need to put linux on for a lot of software I use as a physics major in college. What version of Linux is currently farthest along in terms of Linux 64 bit linux development and would best support the 64 bit processor and drivers. Specifically the laptop I bought is the IBuyPower S-Turbo Series (Uniwill 258KA0)

Thanks,

~Lyuokdea

SuSE 9.1 Pro, I have it and a 64-Bit CPU, although my pc is too far along for SuSE to fully support everything...and I am not sure how to get the 64-Bit capabilities on...
