Default Backups

OK I've got this server in my house, and I'd like to use it for backups. I want to be able to automatically back up the contents of a part of the hard drives of the other computers on my network at a set time each day.

The server is running Mandrake 10.1 Official, and the other computers on the network are Windows XP.

To make backups daily do I need to install software in Windows, Linux, or both? How would you people suggest I go about this?

Thanks in advance.

windows has a crude and awkard scripting feature, you can use that to backup your data at scheduled times, you should be able to ftp it over to the server

I agree with horndude. What you could do is use tar for windows (tar.exe) to tar all your files then upload them via ftp/netbios over to the server. Whare you can have a cronjob that will tar the hole machine and put it to your media of choise (hopefully tape. i.e. DLT)
