| ATI 9200SE vs. Linux... I can't seem to install the driver for my graphic card. I have an ATI 9200 SE AGP card. I downloaded fglrx_4_3_0-8.28.8-1.i386.rpm from ATI's site. I open the terminal and type, "rpm -Uhv fglrx_4_3_0-8.28.8-1.i386.rpm" When I go to run it, I get the following. Quote:

| Re: ATI 9200SE vs. Linux... Have you tried EnvyNG? This is what i use and it can do ATi or Nvidia drivers. Might be of use.

| Re: ATI 9200SE vs. Linux... sudo apt-get install envyng-gtk
(assuming you're on ubuntu)
Applications - System Tools - EnvyNG
Click on ATI, try automatic method. If it doesn't work, try manual. For my Nvidia, I had to use manual.

| Re: ATI 9200SE vs. Linux... ATi is EVIL. I mean it, they're horrible for Linux. My AGP X1600Pro didn't work at all, the fglrx drivers just crashed. I also see you're using RPM. I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND MOVING TO UBUNTU 8.10. Sure, 8.10 isn't even out yet, but the 8.10 beta is awesome, and it finally gets fglrx right. My X1600Pro came to life right away on 8.10 using the automatic hardware drivers installer thing. No terminal, no downloading ATI's packages, nothing like that, just works out of the box. Compiz, 3d screensavers, OpenGL, everything works fine, so update to Ubuntu if you want ATi to work.

| Re: ATI 9200SE vs. Linux... I installed it, and tried Automatic, said it didn't support my Operating System (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS). I then tried manual. Worked, rebooted, and then I couldn't get my Resolution to change. Restarted the system, after messing with it, and uninstalling the driver. Once it booted, I got a message on my monitor saying 'Invalid Input' or something. Can't see anything. |

| Re: ATI 9200SE vs. Linux... That's why I said update to 8.10. It doesn't work right in 8.04. Download an Ubuntu 8.10 Beta (Intrepid Ibex) CD and reinstall Ubuntu from scratch (back up old files first if you have any). Don't got to ATi's site, instead, first run Update Manager to download repository packages (otherwise the hardware drivers program doesn't work right). Then, after updating, your computer should say Restricted Drivers are available. If not (usually says this after restarting your PC) you can go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers and it should say ATi Accelerated Driver or something like that, just let it download and install the driver for you. Restart your PC. If all goes well, it should drop to text terminal during boot and say something like DKMS and fglrx, this is where it builds the driver for your system. When it finally gets to the login page, ATi's driver should be running fine.

| Re: ATI 9200SE vs. Linux... Downloaded, and installed Ubuntu 8.10 Beta. I'm doing the distribution upgrade, as I write. It's in the 'Cleaning Up' stage. It's been sitting at this stage for about an hour and a half. There were only 2 packages that had to be removed. When I open terminal, it is sitting on "removing linux-headers-2.6.27.4" just before that it was, "removing linux-headers-2.6.27.4-generic" How long are these suppose to take? |

| Re: ATI 9200SE vs. Linux... Not long, if it's finished doing the upgrade you can probably just close it and reboot. After that update again and try the restricted driver manager.
