Default annoyed with xmms

whenever i start a playlist, i would like to send xmms to another workspace so i don't have to see it. but it randomly tells me that my soundcard is busy once it finishes a song, so i have to manually hit play to go onto the next song.

sometimes it plays 3 or so songs without problem, other times it stops after every song. is this just an xmms thing or do i have something wrong?

Are you running arts sound daemon(KDE)?
do you have ess(enlightened sound system) installed?

well do i need KDE to use the arts sound daemon? i'm running fluxbox.

i tried to install the ess, it told me i needed the audiofile libraries.. so i installed that, but ess still tells me i don't have the libraries

get ess installed and you should be ok,what it does is lets multiple programs share the sound device at the same time

arts is a sound server that KDE uses, it can cause problems sometimes sharing the sound device with something else, thats why I asked

you may be having issues with ALSA if its using that, although ALSA is pretty good these days, so is xmms usually
