Talking Am making the BIG move...

Well after weeks and weeks of thinking about this, am gona get rid of windows for a wile and just concentarte on using mandrake linux, but i have a few questions 1st before i make the BIG move.

I use Adobe Photoshop alot, is there an actual version for Linux? What about Studio MX (fireworks, dreamweaver, flash etc etc)

As my college is using windows based computers, what office application under linux can save office file formats.

If i burn cd's under linux, will they work on a windows based machine

Thanks in advance

no photoshop for linux, there is gimp

no studio mx, there's quanta which is part of the KDE desktop GUI, try that

openoffice does office stuff and is cross platform compatible

cd's are burned in an iso9660 format, compatible with everything

tyledogg.

Yup, I tried GIMP, it has almost all the options that photoshop uses.OpenOffice [built in package] too is really good.

I never burnt a CD using the CD-Writing software in my linux..kinda difficult to configure..but you can get over it.

@ horndude: ive been doing some searching on the net and found there is to programs that will make photoshop, studio mx etc etc work on linux, or basically and microsoft capable program. These are called "WINE" and "Crossover (i think this is the name of this one)"

What about burning dvd's? Are the burned so there compatuble with all OS's???

@ intercodes: i've tried "gimp" and i dont like it. yeah it may be just as powerful as photoshop, but at the end of the day, it aint photoshop

Yah,I bet its hard to work in the beginning, but if you spend more time [thats what linux is abt -spending time] it will be real easy!

Wine is the total crap software ever written for an linux architecture. It takes about 15 seconds to open a small 600K flash EXE file...Oops, not to mention the photoshops, studios..etc...it will never work.

Dunno about DVD's thou...

dvd's use udf filesystem for all machines

wine sucks, its pretty buggy

burning cd's is quite easy, same with dvd's, you can do it with command line or get a front end like xcdroast or k3b
