i was just wondering what package management system Gentoo uses (i dont know if what i said makes any sense. what i mean is Red Hat and all related for eg uses *.rpm, what does Gentoo use?).

second question - i was just wondering as to whether Gentoo would be suitable for someone who has used linux previously in the form of Fedora 3 and is semi linux-litterate (can install, do basic admin things, have basic understanding of file system etc).

Portage usually compiles from source, there are no Gentoo-specific packages like .rpm or .deb.
