Heyyo,

Now, there's several ways to do ftp. FTP = File Transfer Protocol. There's a system called the OSI layers. On this 7 layer system, FTP is on the application layer (layer 7 I think). Now, if you use a router or a firewall to protect your network, you may need to open ports (if ya dunno what those are, read into them dude). The port FTP uses by default should be 25.. or 21... I'll wing it n' say 25. Should be UDP, but some SFTP's are on TCP I think.

Now, there's plenty of ftp programs. Most programs make ftp-ing a lot like as if you were browsing your own computer. Internet Explorer comes with built in FTP abilities. You can try it there. Here's a great ftp, westwood's ftp server. See if you can find some of the MP3's from the original Command & Conquer soundtracks! it's great, I have hells march now onna cd in my car, pwnage.

ftp://ftp.westwood.com/

as you can see, it's just like your HD. You have folders, and files. Simple as that. Now some require login. To login to these servers using IE, you right-click onnit, and use the login selection the menu. Westwood doesn't require one luckly.

Heh, I'm still amazed their ftp's up since the companies gone under, so enjoy it while you still can!

btw, best freeware ftp program is by mozilla!

I host an FTP server on my PC with a program called z-FTP server. It works great for me. you can manage accounts and assign specific root folders or multiple resources, make anonymous access, tons of stuff. Google it. You can set what port it listens on (21 is default for IE and FFox I think), whatever port that is, if you are behind a router or firewall you'l have to foreward to your network ip (your computer)
That should do it
