| Newb Techie | Hey guys (I hope this is the right place for this thread) I dropped out of HS and I got my GED, so I have to go to Community College so my mom doesn't kick me out of the house. It's either that or get a job. Only subjects that I find interesting that college could offer me is; writing or computers. Not sure about writing though... I like to read, so it was just an idea. Computers... I like playing games and I've dabbled into the VERY basics of code; HTML and Python. Strong emphasis on very. I grabbed a few papers from the school listing classes/courses. I'll list some of the computer ones; 1) Computer Programming 2) Computer Networking 3) Computer Applications 4) Computer Information Systems 5) Digital Graphic Design I'm pretty sure I'm not interested in Computer Applications if it has to do with Excel, Word, etc, that boring crap because I took that in High School and dreaded that class unless I could go on the internet. I don't know what Computer Information Systems is at all. Digital Graphic Design is a no for me because I'm not artistic. Computer Networking I'm not to sure what that is all about either. I'm hoping you guys can tell me a little bit more about them. More info then what the sheet tells me. How it's used in the working world. What you do exactly. As much as I would need to know because I don't want to jump into something I don't wanna do. I don't have much time to choose really, but I hope I find interest in one of these because I haven't found much in anything else. Thanks. |

| Fatty Lumpkins | programming is basically you sit and work for a company and work on code for a program. computer networking, depending on how your work with it, like you can work for a company that services a lot of different clients, so basically you're in charge of maintaining and upgrading networks, which could include like upgrading server hardware and such. not sure what computer applications is, same with computer information systems. i think they are both just pretty broad spectrums of things. and digital graphic design is just working with fonts, photoshop, illustrator and stuff so its all design which wouldn't work for you cause you said you wern't very artistic. also if you go to collegeboard.com thats a great site that helps you not only with colleges, but it helps with exactly what goes into each course type thing.
