I 'm wondering if anyone here has ever attended MICROTRAIN in the chicago area, I will be starting there in a few weeks and I'm just looking for a little feedback on what to expect from this tech school. If anyone has any knowledge about this school please let me know. Thanks.

I will be attending the one in lombard. How were the classes that you took, would these classes be good for someone new to the IT field or are these more for the people that already have a great deal of knowledge on the subjects. Thanks

I also attended the one in Lombard. The class was PRETTY GOOD. I also loved the location, with Yorktown Mall right across the street. Hmm, I took the A+ one, Im not sure what you're taking. Once you make your payment, they give u a nice thick A+ Book and a PC Toolkit, if they already haven't given u them. Then the classes are head in one of the rooms down in the lower level basement. The classes were mostly informative, with several hands on learning (taking a pc apart and putting it back together,)(installing windows from scratch, etc.) I say it can surely be good for someone new OR knowledgable in the IT field. If you are new, make sure you keep up with the daily lectures and hands on stuff, while also keeping up with chapters in the book that the instructor assigns you to study. The instructor does GO THROUGH all the stuff you need to know, but it is up to u to make sure u know the stuff that he says would be on the A+ test(if thats what ur taking and if ur taking that test after training) so make sure u know the chapters he assigns in the book if u plan on passing the A+ Cert Exam RIGHT AFTER training. If u have a great deal of knowledge, then u should past the test right after training. After training, you get a training certificate, and he orders a TON of Pizza During training, u get 1 break. I learned quite a lot! But i still cant beleive how much i spent though. If u pass the A+ Exam, they even try to help u find a job, as a tech or help/desk i think. If u have more questions, please ask! Oh, and tell me if have a guy named DAVE SAMPLES. <-- BEWARE He was my instructor for the A+ clases . hehe

Hey Nemesis thanks a lot for all the info. I do have pretty good knowledge of the subject, but I think a good solid course could always help, I also plan on taking the network + and security + there also, but my knowledge in those areas is a litter weaker, so I just wanted to make sure that the classes would accomadate someone that may be knew to the area of study. Thanks for all the info and good luck to you, and if I have Mr. Dave Samples I will be sure to let you know. Thanks again.

Hey. I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but i just had to post, I just finished the A+ course at Microtrain in Downtown Chicago. It was alright; However I would recommend learning this stuff by yourself, alot of the stuff thats taught in class won't really help you with the A+ test itself, but it seems like its taught for personal "I'm new to computers" knowledge. I'm getting ready to take the Hardware 220-301 test monday, hopefully i can pass. I think I'm confident enough to do it, and plus I'm going to college after this and I'm looking foward to it; its motivation to pass. Overall, It helps you learn by yourself how to pass the A+ test, but not worth the money they make you pay. The cool thing is that after i do pass theyre going to give you another test for a new certification theyre looking to launch called "Microtrain hands-on" basically showing that you know the walk. ![]()
