| Re: mcse I suggest you get your A+, as it is the basic certification and usually what most people start with for certifications. MCSE is much more involved, and now MCSE has changed to MCITP(?) certification, so MCSE is an older cert now. |

| Re: mcse Start small, grow from there. Start with the A+ first. Realize that as Oldskool said the MCSE/MCITP are EXTREMELY involved and require 5+ exams to take. Realize each of those exams literature are around 700 - 1200 pages in length. So they are difficult to say the least. I'm not saying you couldn't pass it, people pass them all the time. But if you are comparing the A+ to the MCSE, then you should probably start off slow with the A+, or maybe security+ then go from there. |

| Re: mcse The A+ exams are the industry standard for basic PC hardware certification. The MCSE and the newer MCITP tracks are certs that people usually get after they get an A+ cert. It is usually (usually, not always) the way people do it; get the A+, then maybe Network+, Security +, then on to things like MCSE or Cisco or something. It all depends on what your goals are really. |

| Re: mcse Okay so you've taken the essentials, did you take the other exam to complete the certification? A+ requires two exams. I guess i don't understand the '1+2.' There are two exams, it sounds like you took one, but you need both to be certified.
Do what you want, i'm just suggesting starting off with a CompTIA exam, then going to a microsoft exam. Usually the easiest will be an OS exam, either XP or Vista. While Vista is going to become 'outdated' in a few months it will still be supported by microsoft. Vista is also the most similar to Windows 7 so taking the new windows 7 exam would be easier than jumping from XP to win7. |

| Re: mcse I have taken any cisco exams, so I can't say if they are similar.
Since you have your A+ then start on your MCITP. Here is microsofts explanation of the differences between MCSE and MCITP and the different MCITP paths. Depending on what your goal is would depend on what path to take.
MCITP: If you look at the FAQ page it will explain some of the differences between MCSE and MCITP. Microsoft Learning: Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) |

| Re: mcse i called up microsoft today after work and i asked them what different microsoft courses there are and what ones the right choice for me, heres the list i made up what he said to me
MCSA - going towards MCSE
MCSE - the whole package
MCSDT - for begineers
i said what i do and he said first option id go for the MCSA and if you do well (which he said i will ) as i said about my previous computer experience and knowledge that top it up with the MCSE but he said both are highly recognised certs and any will get you a job so im asking shall i just do the MCSA as theres less exams?

| Re: mcse Do what you feel is right for YOU. We are not you we can not answer personal questions on what you should do that can affect your life. Only you can make those choices.
MCSA is the lowest. MCSE is better. MCSE will get you more money. But simply put they are NOT the only factor that will get you a job. Not every place cares about Microsoft Certs. Someplaces could care less if your Microsoft certified and would rather you are Cisco certified.
So really the choice is yours. You do what you feel is best for you. All the information is present.
