Thanks for all the responses. I know that I won't be getting an admin job right away, actually I'm planning on not getting one. But I was just wanting to know what would be a good start on my way working up to one. I still have like 5 months until I'm done with school. I have wanted to do an internship/volunteer work in the field, but working close to full time and going to school full time take up a lot of... time. I appreciate the input!

Bah.... LOL. Tell that to the 65% on average that enroll to Cisco CCNA classes with no prior networking experience per class. Seriously, enroll in one, it's that large. Anyway, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with enrolling in the first semester of the Cisco academy for CCNA. After you are about 3/4 of the way through it, you will be able to take and most likely pass your Net+ exam. Buying Network+ study material is a waste of money in my opinion.

Yeah, that maybe true; infact, I know it's true with all those TV spots and radio ads promoting becoming a network engineer through diploma mills...but I've run into my share of people who are CCNA or MCSE with no experience and then are scrambling around retail jobs while waiting on an IT opportunity to open up. They always end up talking about how they should be making 60-80k without any experience and don't understand why they are working retail. But...then again, they don't even consider starting off at a lower position like Help Desk.

I excuse myself from statements that are questionable and that propose a lack of research. So, yea, look it up....

Huh? What are you blabbing about? I was agreeing with your statement about the large number of people who go into to get a CCNA with absolutely no experience. But how many, honestly, become good network engineers? They heard the ads and thought "oooh big money in IT" and jumped into it head first. What respectable company would hire a network engineer (or "associate", whatever you want to call it) and give them the kind of money they want with no experience with the responsibility of keeping their infrastructure working? If they have a good HR and good technical interviewers they won't get the job in this post-dot-com era.

Exactly, not many if any go on to even complete the academy. I was agreeing with you too.
